TikTok LIVE Studio on a Mac
Yes, it does now. TikTok’s help centre says LIVE Studio is available for macOS as well as Windows, although many older guides still say Windows only. Your Mac needs at least an M1 chip, or a 2019 or later Intel iMac or Mac mini, and your TikTok account still needs LIVE access.
Does LIVE Studio run on a Mac?
Yes. LIVE Studio started as a Windows app, and many guides, some of them recent, still say there is no Mac version. TikTok’s own LIVE Studio FAQ now says “TikTok LIVE Studio is available for both macOS and Windows”, and its install guide says the same.
Download it only from TikTok’s own page, tiktok.com/studio/download. Copies on download sites can be out of date or worse.
These are TikTok’s requirements for a Mac. It doesn’t name a minimum macOS version.
| Mac | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Apple silicon | M1, 8 GB of memory | M2 Pro or later, 16 GB |
| Intel | iMac or Mac mini from 2019 or later with a Core i7 or i9, 16 GB | Not listed |
A fast upload matters as much as the Mac. LIVE Studio lets you pick the quality to suit your connection and your computer.
You still need LIVE access
LIVE Studio checks your TikTok account when you sign in, and TikTok says the requirements “may vary depending on your country/region”. Going LIVE at all needs an account holder of 18 or older and a follower count that TikTok sets per market.
- If you already go LIVE on TikTok, access can be granted straight away when your account meets TikTok’s criteria: its age, the time you have spent LIVE recently, your followers and no recent suspension. TikTok doesn’t publish the numbers.
- If you stream on another platform, LIVE Studio sends you to a form about your channel there. TikTok says the review can take days, and the TikTok app tells you when you are approved.
- New access starts as a trial. To keep it, TikTok asks you to go LIVE for at least 25 minutes, twice during your first week.
- If you don’t qualify yet, LIVE Studio shows the requirements you don’t meet in grey. You can reapply once you meet them.
Your access status is shown in the top right corner of LIVE Studio.
What LIVE Studio is good at
- No stream key. It signs in to your account, so it works for accounts that LIVE Center won’t give a key.
- Both shapes on TikTok. With a dual layout, one scene goes out in portrait and landscape at the same time, and each TikTok viewer sees the one that suits their screen.
- Made by TikTok. TikTok also says it doesn’t treat streams differently by tool: “we will not alter your traffic due to your use of specific streaming tools such as LIVE Studio or OBS.”
It is built for TikTok LIVE, and TikTok doesn’t describe a way to send the same show to YouTube, Twitch or other platforms from it. For that you need other software.
Other ways to go LIVE on TikTok from a Mac
OBS Studio with a stream key
Free, and runs on macOS 13 or later. It needs a stream key from LIVE Center, which not every account gets: see how to get a TikTok stream key. With a plugin, OBS can send the same show to other platforms as well: see how to multistream with OBS.
Streamlabs Desktop
Runs on macOS 12 or later and connects by signing in to TikTok rather than with a key. TikTok still has to approve your account for third-party tools, and Streamlabs says creators must stream at least 50% gaming content when they use third-party software. The free version streams to one landscape and one portrait platform at a time; more needs a Streamlabs Ultra subscription.
Mucast
Mucast, the Mac app this site is for, streams one show to TikTok and other platforms at once, using the stream key from LIVE Center. It needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later. The free version streams to 2 platforms at once, up to 1080p at 30 fps, without a watermark; Pro costs $19.99 a month, $180 a year (with a 7-day trial) or $399 once. Each show streams in one shape, portrait or landscape, not both at once like LIVE Studio’s dual layout.
The TikTok app on your phone
The simplest option when you don’t need a computer’s camera, screen or game. It needs LIVE access, but no key.
| Option | Connects with | Other platforms at once | Mac needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| LIVE Studio | Your TikTok sign-in | No | M1, or a 2019 or later Intel iMac or Mac mini |
| OBS Studio | A stream key | With a plugin | macOS 13 or later |
| Streamlabs Desktop | Your TikTok sign-in, once approved | One per shape free; more with Ultra | macOS 12 or later |
| Mucast | A stream key | 2 free; more with Pro | Apple silicon, macOS 26 or later |
Which one to use
- You stream only to TikTok and LIVE Studio gives you access: use LIVE Studio. It is TikTok’s own tool, and it can show portrait and landscape layouts at once.
- You have a stream key and want other platforms at the same time: use OBS with a multistreaming plugin, or Mucast on a Mac with Apple silicon.
- Your Mac is an Intel Mac or runs an older macOS: LIVE Studio and OBS both still cover it; Mucast doesn’t.
- You have neither access nor a key yet: go LIVE from the TikTok app. TikTok’s access checks look at how much you have gone LIVE recently.
Questions
Short answers to what people ask most about this.
Does TikTok LIVE Studio work on Intel Macs?
Yes. For Intel, TikTok lists an iMac or Mac mini from 2019 or later with a Core i7 or i9 and 16 GB of memory as the minimum. Apple silicon Macs need at least an M1 with 8 GB.
Why does LIVE Studio say I don’t have access?
LIVE Studio checks your account: how old it is, how long you have been LIVE recently, how many followers you have and whether your LIVE access was suspended. TikTok doesn’t publish the numbers, and they vary by region. LIVE Studio shows the requirements you don’t meet yet in grey, and you can reapply once you meet them.
Can LIVE Studio stream to YouTube or Twitch at the same time?
Not that TikTok describes: LIVE Studio is TikTok’s app for TikTok LIVE. To reach other platforms at the same time, use OBS with a multistreaming plugin or a Mac app such as Mucast with a TikTok stream key, or a relay service that connects to TikTok for you.
Do I need a stream key for LIVE Studio?
No. LIVE Studio signs in to your TikTok account. You need a key only for other software, such as OBS.
